Inspired by my yoga teacher sharing insights about the dietary health benefits of a diet based on Ayurvedic principles, I was keen to explore more.  Please note I have authored the content below as a novice to Ayurveda.

Ayurveda originates from India and simply focuses on ‘Food is Medicine’ and Medicine is Food’ philosophy.  Largely vegetarian, selected foods are ‘recommended’ for the three ‘doshas’ or body types ‘Pitta’ (mesomorphic – medium height, weight and body type), ‘Kapha’ (ectomorphic – slower metabolism, prone to weight gain) and ‘Vata’ (endomorphic- fast metabolism, thin body type).

Jody Vassallo’s book provided me with useful information (and metric measurements) from an Australian (Western) perspective.  I liked the way the content classified the recipes under the three doshas – light, flavoursome meals focusing on seasonal fruits and vegetables for Kapha types; cooling grains and seed-based dishes for Pitta types and warming, spice-enriched meals for Vata types.

Please see attached below three of my favourite recipes that you might like to try

Eggplant curry

Filled capsicums

Spinach and tofu curry
